A HERITAGE BRAND

Tried, tested and trusted by farms and families since 1947, Selfset provides a range of traditional rodent control that has continued to offer a straight-forward solution for over 70 years!

THE SELFSET STORY

Dating back to 1947, founders Richard Evans and Freddie Flint designed a trap that would question the traditional catch method of rodents and combat the unreliability in traps of the day. The design was based on their findings of rodent eating studies and uses a push trigger to activate.

Originally made of mild steel with a distinct base of stove enamelled green, zinc plating was required to give the traps more resistance from rust. The 1950's brought with it higher quality materials at a better cost for manufacture which eventually led to the galvanised format that still remains today.

Not only did they design the traps, but they manufactured them too at Mr Flints British sheet metal works company, Falcon Tools (Hampton) Ltd. But they needed a brand. And so Selfset Ltd was created.

Improvements in marketing and production started to drive more and more sales, and as sales increased so did Selfset's customer base. Sales often exceeded 75,000 per month with many being exported to New Zealand and Australia. During the 1960’s, Mr Flint took full control of the company and it is still owned and run by the Flint family today.

Since being appointed the exclusive distributor for Selfset in 2012, STV has continued to uphold the brand traditions and maintained a positive user experience. Machinery and packaging may have moved on over the years, but the quality and heritage of the product still remains the same.

Did you know... The introduction of spikes on the base of the rat trap was a result of the Dustman’s Strike in Glasgow where larger and so called super rats first appeared. These rats often escaped from the old trap but not the new spiked trap!
